A few weeks ago, Gartner shared its list of top 10 technology trends for 2014, including among its expectations one entitled: "Hybrid cloud and IT as Service Broker." This prediction speaks to what Gartner views as the necessity of the hybrid cloud - a mix of private cloud combined with external public cloud services - along with the role of IT evolving to include that of Cloud Service Broker. The notion of IT serving as Cloud Service Broker means IT going beyond its traditional services to making strategic decisions on cloud adoption, particularly as cloud-bursting (outgrowing private cloud) becomes necessary for more enterprises. IT departments will be leading the customization and integration of their enterprise's cloud expansion, regardless of where a cloud application resides. Adopting a hybrid cloud strategy along with this new role means IT departments wil... (more)

By David Canellos PerspecSys President and CEO Despite widespread concerns about cloud data security and control, there's been a lot of recent news on the healthcare industry's steady, but cautious foray into cloud computing. By David Canellos PerspecSys President and CEO Gartner recently published a report that highlights a trend that we have been experiencing over the past few years, namely, the growing number of enterprises wrestling with cloud data security, cloud compliance, and cloud data residency issues associated with storing and processing sensitive information in SaaS cloud applications. Gartner estimates that by 2016, 25% of enterprises will secure access to cloud-based services using what they term a Cloud Access Security Broker platform and that these platforms will reduce the cost of s... By David Canellos PerspecSys President and CEO Driven by large-scale government initiatives as well as private investment, cloud computing has become a hot growth area in China. Named a ‘Strategic Emerging Industry' in the government's 12th Five Year Plan (2011 - 2015), cloud computing is slated to become a primary force in the Chinese IT industry and overall economy in the next 3-5 years. In fact, according to IDC Asia-Pacific, China spent $286 million on cloud-computing infrastructure last year, and the amount will increase to more than $1 billion in 2016. The Asia Cloud Compu... Selecting Cloud Security Brokers: 'All-in-One' or 'Best-of-Breed'?

When we set out to build the PerspecSys Cloud Data Control Gateway, we faced an important design decision: would the market prefer an "All-in-One" or a "Best-of-Breed" Cloud Security Broker? In the "All-in-One" camp, IT professionals have come to learn that the bundled modules from a single vendor have significant gaps in features that frequently lead to critical capability holes with implications ranging from operational scalability to compliance and security. Failing to address these shortcomings can be devastating for companies, potentially leading to financial loss and brand... (more)
