By David Canellos PerspecSys President and CEO In a lot of ways, changes in enterprise technology have mirrored consumer technology trends over the last few years. Just look at mobility, social apps, and cloud computing as examples. And whether you view the crossover as advantageous, overly risky, or merely inevitable, it's certain that enterprise IT security must adapt quickly to the new challenges presented, including overcoming cloud data security, cloud data residency, and cloud compliance issues. A series of recent articles and industry analyst reports I have read shows the clear trend that business-critical apps like CRM, storage, and collaboration - enterprise IT's mainstays - are now moving towards cloud and mobile, despite inherent risks. In the case of mobile, workers are simply more productive and comfortable using their smartphones, laptops, and tablets... (more)

Five Key IT Security Issues for the Next Two Years

Last month, the Information Security Forum released their annual prediction of the top 10 information security threats they foresee for the next two years - through 2016. While I found the entire list insightful, half of the list resonated strongly with me as someone who is working with large enterprises as they wrestle with security and compliance challenges as they embark on cloud adoption. Hybrid Cloud Solutions Offer Enhanced Cloud Protection & Data Security

By David Canellos PerspecSys President and CEO Despite widespread concerns about cloud data security and control, there's been a lot of recent news on the healthcare industry's steady, but cautious foray into cloud computing. However, the report points to some key restraints, such as patient data security and cloud compliance that could slow down the marke... (more)

Named a ‘Strategic Emerging Industry' in the government's 12th Five Year Plan (2011 - 2015), cloud computing is slated to become a primary force in the Chinese IT industry and overall economy in the next 3-5 years. In fact, according to IDC Asia-Pacific, China spent $286 million on cloud-computing infrastructure last year, and the amount will increase to more than $1 billion in 2016. The Asia Cloud Compu... Gartner’s Trends for 2014 – The Hybrid Cloud & the Role of IT

A few weeks ago, Gartner shared its list of top 10 technology trends for 2014, including among its expectations one entitled: "Hybrid cloud and IT as Service Broker." This prediction speaks to what Gartner views as the necessity of the hybrid cloud - a mix of private cloud combined with external public cloud services - along with the role of IT evolving to include that of Cloud Service Broker. The notion of IT serving as Cloud Service Broker means IT going beyond its traditional services to making strategic decisions on cloud adoption, particularly as cloud-bursting (outgrowing ... (more)
